SLOW COOKER APPLE BUTTER
Something I can’t get enough of this season: apple butter. It’s essentially apple sauce, just thicker and made with all the Fall spices: ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg and ground ginger. It’s perfect to spread on toast, muffins, pancakes, waffles, or add it to craft cocktails! Your guests will love if you add it to your Thanksgiving spread!
SLOW COOKER APPLE BUTTER
Yield: 5 cups
Ingredients:
3 pounds apples peeled, cored and sliced
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground numeg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Instructions:
In the bowl of your slow cooker, combine apples, sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and salt. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, stirring occassionally.
Transfer apples to a blender or food processor and puree until smooth. Return to the crockpot and cook, uncovered on high for 1-2 hours or until slightly thickened. Cool and store in glass jars in the fridge for up to 1 month.
